Hard to believe what happened today. All last years optimism and the confidence gained from yet another u21 title and to turn out such a performance was unbelievable. First and foremost, the brawl before the game was disgrace. It was premeditated by the Armagh camp and tried to lay down and early marker. Severe and lengthy bans should be handed out to the players responsible as this has no place on any football field. It was a major blow to lose Dunne in the fracas that ensued. For the game itself, Cavan started well and showed well for the ball. Two early frees settled the nerves and I expected Cavan to kick on. Moving Givney in to the square didn't work. Mid way through the first half he resumed normal service around the middle but the Cavan lads weren't ready for the breaks. Cavans defence was terrible. McLaughlin was poor, dunne was always behind, Clarke was found out with McEnroe the only man showing any hunger to get to the ball first. Gunner is not a natural footballer and having him around the middle was madness. Bringing Mooney on made no difference but Makaay showed well and pushed Cavan forward at the beginning of the second half. J Brady was poor also. Keating thinks he can score from everywhere. It certainly feels like one step forward and two steps back. Armagh did to us what we were doing to teamsl last year. The score line could have read 4-20 to 1-9 if Armagh had brought there shooting boots. #thefutureisnotblue if we play this style. waynerooney11 (Cavan) - Posts: 142 - 08/06/2014 19:41:13 1600091 Link 0 |
Certainly did not see that coming. Absolutely shocked by both the performance and the mass brawl at the start. Dreadful day for Cavan football, we'll surely get a raft of suspensions once the GAA investigate!! Ned_Stormcrow (Cavan) - Posts: 1071 - 08/06/2014 19:47:35 1600096 Link 0 |
We need to get rid of this slow ponderous build up of looking to left and right when where in their end of the field and head straight for goal all Martin Reilly and co wanted to do was keep possision and turning left and right instead of running at goal we need to scrap this to defensive game we have what concerns me is we got bet by a team relegated to division 3 and we go prompted and we where second best in every possision especially midfield what worrys me is they where one of the worst in division 2 and we got we'll bet could it be we go straight back down to division 3 next year hopefully we get a favourable draw tomorrow to lift the mood cause it's feels like there something not right and where slowely going back awards Cavan_COYBIB (Cavan) - Posts: 62 - 08/06/2014 20:02:26 1600110 Link 0 |
couldnt see a lot of the brawl so not sure whoo started what or even who was involved it was an awful display thought our midfield and full forward line very slow to react flannigan just not with it today thought gilsenan pulled off a couple of great saves and at times looked looked like the only one wanting to play no one looking for the ball at all cavan.wanderer (Cavan) - Posts: 82 - 08/06/2014 21:02:41 1600179 Link 0 |

I saw it coming especially after the Ros game! Time hyland took the blinkers off and buried the hatchet with the best forward in the county who was sitting in the house and the 2nd best forward on current for o Connor . Play the game terry! dirtybag (Cavan) - Posts: 242 - 08/06/2014 21:31:59 1600212 Link 0 |
Just watching Kildare here on the Sunday game and I'm wondering, why can't we play like that??? Ned_Stormcrow (Cavan) - Posts: 1071 - 08/06/2014 21:55:32 1600248 Link 0 |
hold on a minute here!!! we have a lot of hypocrites on this page... in previous posts the vast majority of bloggers have been PRAISING terry, the players and the STYLE OF FOOTBALL..however once we were found out and beaten by armagh ye bloggers are suddenly calling for terrys head and a change in style of play!! hahaha..our expectations were raised TOO high from last year with a lot of people even quoting that 'Cavan will win ulster this year'. fact is lads we are and never will be good enough! when it comes to a heated hard hitting game its boys vs men, with cavan being the boys! our style of play is terrible, we lack all round physicality, we are too slow to release the ball, we play favorited players instead of good all round players! maybe it was just an off day but cavan need a serious rethink in terms of a more attacking style of football i.am.legend (UK) - Posts: 41 - 09/06/2014 08:37:56 1600271 Link 0 |

Where to from here indeed. The first thing needed is to dispel a few self-delusions. Top of this list is wallowing in the belief that we were somehow wronged in the fight at the start. Armagh knew exactly what they were at- right or wrong- but were far too clever for a few riled-up Cavan lads who took the bait and, if we are honest, started the shoving match. Watching Ciaran McKeever in the parade, jawing at his own players, he knew that Armagh had seized the psychological edge even then and wanted to drive it home. Can you imagine how the stand in Breffni would have reacted if someone like Meath or Monaghan tried and failed to budge a Cavan team from their spot? We would have loved every bit of it! Rumour has it the management have lost the dressing room so only a matter of time. Sad times again for Cavan football. Good footballers on the bench watching the managers and selectors play the old favourites trick. And we thought we had made progress. cfsm2012 (Cavan) - Posts: 76 - 10/06/2014 17:01:49 1601638 Link 0 |
Last thing we need are more rumours, desagov (Cavan) - Posts: 206 - 10/06/2014 18:41:25 1601714 Link 0 |
Think we are all in agreement - this crab style football is getting us nowhere - thing is are some of the players so used to it at this stage that they are incapable of changing - i hope not. Lets not forget that individually these players . give or take one or two are the best in the county ( and as good as there are in many counties ) and obviously the most dedicated . However at the momment the team is far less than the total of its parts whereas it should be the other way around. In my opinion too much tactics, analysis and over-management is part of the problem leaving the players afraid to express themselves individually. As i said before let the defenders defend then release the forwards and midfielders to attack with pace and straight-running. its simple but really how could it be any worse than the present system. Lets hope we learn before its too late for everyone involved. I think we can and hopefully it will be a long summer. tenyearplan (Cavan) - Posts: 147 - 10/06/2014 20:05:41 1601776 Link 0 |
