Shercock 0-6 Knockbride 0-3 at half time in Cootehill.

Shercock playing the better football and have the majority of the possession, but they're very wasteful; missing 4 goalscoring opportunities and hitting around 10 wides in the first half. Of the little amount of ball that Knockbride have had 4 opportunities putting over 3, making good use of the ball. The second half has just started and Aidan Lennon has missed a free kick for Shercock. I will report back with the full time score and synopsis later.

Shercock 0-14 Knockbride 0-5 after the final whistle.

Despite carrying over their wastefulness from the first half, this Shercock side made little work of their neighbours in Cootehill today with excellent passing and fluent attacking football. Apart from their 2 scores from the dead ball, Knockbride hardly got the ball forward, making it a quite evening for the Shercock back line with former Cavan senior panelist goalkeeper, Colin Courtney, only racking up 6 kick outs. The game didn't pass without incident though, with Knockbride man getting sent off for kicking an opponent.

Hi OPA, yep was down at it, here's a quick report of the match.

Lacken 0-16 Shercock 1-4

The 9 point win for Lacken purely resulted from the difference between the first division sides' quality and Shercock's third tier position, that divide was plain to see on the day. After a close start, with both teams taking turns with scores, leaving it 2 points a piece with 10 minutes gone, Lacken quickly pulled away totalling 13 points in the first half, with Shercock creating few opportunities - only scoring 1 more point in the latter stages of the first half, with Lacken leading 0-13 to 0-3 after 30 minutes.
The second half seen Shercock improve, holding on to possession better and creating more chances, although they were wasteful, a trait they had carried over from the Knockbride match. Kenny Burns pulled a goal back for the east Cavan men with roughly 10 minutes left, but minutes after Lacken had the opportunity to cancel the goal out from the penalty spot after a perceived foot block around the Shercock square after a bout of heavy pressure from Lacken, but Raymond Galligan's penalty struck the bar; the only black mark in what was a good performance from Galligan overall.

There's no denying that Lacken were deserving winners, and it will come as no surprise if they end up playing Senior Championship football next year. They were a bigger, stronger team with experienced and very skillful players who are fast and effective on attack and defensively aware. In midfield, Lacken were excellent, winning the majority of the braking ball and distributing it well. Niall McKiernan was a powerhouse, holding possession well, making great passes and running with the ball seemlessly, also scoring nice points around the 45.

Shercock didn't play badly at all, not as the scoreline may suggest, at the back they were playing well, making no mistakes and always tracking runners. They were hit with an unfortunate injury to Colin Clerkin midway through the first half, being replaced by Shane Clarke who played well after coming on. Lacken's team had an extra yard of pace all over the pitch, meaning the Shercock defence found their attacks hard to deal with and the Shercock forwards were hard fought in creating opportunities. Killian Clarke and Brian Sankey performed well for the Junior Champions.

Lacken will be Senior Championship next year if they stay near the top of divison 1.

I wudnt say killiian Clarke played, N McKiernan had the better of him at mid-field. shankey was ok. The mid fielder Micheal Reilly played very well. McKiernan had a gud game, till he started taken shots from unscoreable positions in th 2nd half. Gud performance over all.

Agree ladyluk McKiernan was the standout performer that day apart from his wild shooting in the second half. Hes as good thats in the county. Killian Clarke was poor in the first half but done ok on Galligan in the second period. Sankey was poor, Micheal Reilly caught about three great balls but his distribution was was very poor. I see Lacken bet Kingscourt yesterday there the team to beat.

Drumlane are far from winning an intermediate championship! Crosserlough have 3 very good and dangerous forwards but think their defence will let them down in the end. Killeshandra are very inconsistent and have a tough draw! Lacken are the team to beat!!
