Divisional team time around the corner for Cavan

(Oldest Posts First)

Tomsmith here
As an advocated for divisional teams for along number of years I just wonder will someone bite the bullet and just organise this competition.
In previous years I mooted five Divisional teams and the County Champions ( at that time Cavan Gaels), play each other
With aggregate scores to count and a final to be played off
I feel that Mr Hyland should be at the coal face and I am sure he would pick up a few players for his panel
Any views

Why doesn't a full strength county team play a few clubs like Kingscourt, Castlerahan, Cavan Gaels on the run up to the championship and let's give clubs and the county team an idea where they at? A nice little 4 team tournament between the end of national league and the 1st round of Ulster would sharpen up the county team and give club players much needed game time.

No point. The Gaels played the county team before and hammered them off the field..they hardly want a repeat of that.

Yeah the Gaels beating the County would scientifically prove...................something and shut up all those Cavan people supporting their County team.

What would happen if the County won? It's inconceivable of course. It'd be a freak result, or a bad refereeing decision or the like.

I must confess that in the past I felt that a lot of your posts did not make a lot of sense but now that your posting ability has improved I must congratulate you on you contribution to my Divisional team proposals. While I do not believe that a group of clubs should be nominated to just play against the County team (as these could be described by some as elitist teams) I feel that Divisional teams are the best way forward. Pick say four teams with no County men on them and the Current County Champions plus a team like Cavan Gaels and you have six teams. Every team plays each other and you have five games aggregiate scores to count and you can have a final with the top two teams playing off. I am sure that Mr Hyland will get a few new players for his panel from this series of games

It may be time to bring divisional teams into the senior club championship to try and improve the standard of the club championship. Sure it's worth a try. Something needs to change.

Just like to clarify something here so that people can read into this particular match as they like. All the gales players on the county team bar one refused to play against their club and insisted they be allowed to play with them. They did not hammer the county team as stated thats facts . It was a total shambles and you have players saying don't tackle too hard we are playing next Saturday. Read into that anyway you like but this so called sham was just that a total shambles and really should never have happened. They did not even complete a full game.

Watching Rockcorry playing yesterday it just goes to show the standard of Football in Monaghan compared to Cavan football there is a massive difference Rock would be a very good Intermediate team in Cavan

They were a Senior team in 2013 but got consecutive Relegations. Monaghan Clubs are very strong in all the grades in Ulster especially Junior. They are the 6th Monagahn Club to win the Ulster Junior Club since the competition offically started in 2001.

They would hold their own with any of our senior teams at this moment in time.
