interesting debate between hardtimes and dean martin - both are extreme in their views. i agree that the brand of football we are playing at the moment is horrible to watch where the first instinct in a lot of players is to turn backways or sideways to give the ball to a colleague standing a few metres away and i do mean standing .Players are becoming afraid to break a tackle and power forward in case it wouldnt look good with the stats man if they lost possesion. Thats good up to a point but it wont win games - individual pieces of brilliance with the shackles off and not afraid to have a go will reap results. Let the defenders defend (and we have some of the best in the country ) but please dont force our forwards to drop their natural attacking instincts which they ve cultivated since their underage days and give them the freedom to express themselves. I think this league campaign will tell a lot . Great performance against Roscommon Barry Reilly made a big difference when introduced - a great football brain - hopefully they wont try to turn him into a defender ! Good luck against Laois- hopefully we can push on and start putting a few results together playing the way football should be played

I don't know Sean66 is the honest answer . We needed to get out of Division 3 as a priority - it definitely was not pretty but at the same time I found the grit and determination displayed along the way very satisfying . There were plenty of positives to remember . We need a more potent attack - is Terry Hyland the man to lead ? This year will tell a lot . Do we even have the forwards regardless of who is in charge ? Again this is a big question . But one thing you can control is the effort , commitment and pride you put out on the field . These things must be in place as a basic because if not , when the talent comes along , a lot of it will fall through the cracks . I think Terry can be very proud of the job he has done so far . There are things I would like to see done different but it's early in the year yet - when we have a full squad and more games under the belt we'll be in a better position to judge his selections .
The year is 2015 - it's been a long winter with no football and I suppose you can understand people over analysing things a bit too much . But the league has started , we're in Division 2 and we have positives to look forward to and actual games to discuss again . It's just very grinding when people still want to dwell on 2013 and 2014 championship losses . No matter what happens this year we will have a championship loss to discuss - I'll be very pleasantly surprised if it's not two losses . And we're not going to win the Division 2 title either . Doesn't mean we haven't things to look forward to and we should be miserable .

I must say this branch contains the most negative contributors on the hoganstand site. Imagine trying to lift young players, all teams can be judged as the competitions progress not at the beginning. Give them a chance!!!!

Sean66....I've put money on Cavan been relegated and Wexford been relegated. By seeing ye and Wexford getting thumped by Clare it's looking good. It doesn't matter if Wexford are in our division or not....they can still go down and make me money!!! Happy days!

Oddball.... You are prob right about Wexford..they were one of the worst county teams I have ever seen last year... It shows how low the standard was in div 3 last season that they survived... As for us if we can beat Laois at the weekend I think we will survive ok...!!!
