Cavanagh says he was being spat at and bitten by a cavan player

So does anyone remember the 2005 aemi-final . Was it the srawn match or the replay. who was marking him. Is he just trying to be comtroversial to sell his book or is there any truth in these allegations.

I remember both games. We should have won the first and just didn't show up for the second, but I don't remember it being a scrappy affair.

In all the years of playing football and being involved with football, i don't remember anyone spitting at an opponent, or biting for that matter.

When does an opponent have time to bite ? He can't do it when he's running and surely if he did it when standing still, there would be a bit mark. He mentions showing a " gob" running down his face, but no mention of a bite mark.

Did he get the gob in retaliation for something he said or did ? Poor ol innocent Sean !

I wonder does he mention the sledging, nut twisting, elbows, upper cuts, dragging, rugby tackles and any other underhanded tactic the Tyrone team dealt out to other teams ??

I thinks its sensationalism to sell his book. If there are no sensational headlines then the book won't sell.

I'd imagine his opening chapter should be " Once upon a time " !!!!!!

His claim was that it was in the first half of the drawn game. And that it was stamped out by the teammates he told of it at HT and it didn't happen much or at all in the 2nd game.

I believe he was marking Nicholas Walsh in both games.

I've seen first hand Peter Canavan doing worse than what Sean describes in his book. Against Cavan too.

I won't condone the behaviour he describes but I have NEVER seen a Cavan player do that. If he has a backbone, he'll name and shame the player in question.

If anything, I've spent the last 20 years on the terraces wishing our players would be more cynical and cuter then they have been!

I wonder has Sean an opinion on the Tyrone minors being fed information about the death of an opponent's father, and then using that information to sledge the opponent in a championship game.

I don't condone it either no matter who it is, its absolutely disgusting and if someone done it to me i'd like to think id leave him sucking through a straw for a while. but i do think some of this is sensationalism. the above about the Tyrone minor team sledging a young lad who's dad had just died is pure disgusting and to think no responsibility was taken either. what about a certain Tyrone player asking a Meath player in 1996 how his mother was after she had passed away previous to the game!!

Anyone who was at that game will recognise that Cavanagh is telling the truth in terms of getting rough treatment. If all the details are right I dont know. Walsh was marking him at midfield and Walsh never showed an interest in the ball the whole match. In the replay Walsh got booked early and that was the end of that.

I dont feel too sorry for Cavanagh, he had some proper tramps playing on his own team who did just as bad as he got so you know what goes around comes around.
