Coronea Blessing of Graves
There was a very large crowd in Coronea cemetery on Sunday afternoon for the annual blessing and thankfully the weather stayed fine.  Thank you to the Church Pastoral Committee for their excellent organisation of the event.  Thank you to Fr. Hannon and Fr. O'Gorman for officiating at the blessing.  The graveyard looked beautiful and is a credit to the people who maintain it week by week and to everyone who have loved ones interred there.

Welcome Fr. O'Gorman
The parish of Arva, Killeshandra and Coronea extend a very warm welcome to our new Parish Priest Fr. Charlie O'Gorman.  We hope he will have many happy years in our Parish.

All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil Success
Congratulations to Diarmaid Martin, Aughnacor on his fantastic second place in the Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann U12 Banjo.  Diarmaid has been playing Banjo for some years now and to compete against musicians from our four provinces, plus England and America and be placed second is a remarkable achievement.  Local musicians will not be surprised at this success  as Diarmaid is a very seasoned musician playing at a level far beyond his tender years.  Onwards and upwards for Diarmaid and no doubt  he has many years of success to look forward to on his banjo.  Also congratulations to Aine McGibney, Corliss on her achievement of reaching Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann U12 Storytelling competition.  Aine was not successful this time but again there is no doubt she has many years ahead of her to look forward to in Fleadh and Scor competitions.  Many locals travelled to Drogheda throughout last week to enjoy the music, song and dance and the overall atmosphere of the 2019 Fleadh Cheoil and its off to Mullingar, Co. Westmeath in 2020.

Michael Gumley RIP
The death has occurred in England of Michael Gumley formerly of Hermitage, Crossdoney, Co. Cavan, son of the late Sarah and Edward Gumley, brother of John Joe, Paddy, Elizabeth and the late Tom and predeceased by his wife Kathy, beloved Father of Tony, Andy and Linda, sadly missed by all his grandchildren, relatves and large circle of friends.  Funeral to take place in England on 4th September and a mass for the repose of Michael's soul will take place in St. Patrick's Church, Drumcor at a later date.  Michael was very well known around Cornafean in his younger days and had a great love for the football club.  He played some Junior Football for the Reds in his youth and down through the years he always liked to remind people Cornafean was his club.
Michael spent many years of his life in England but always maintained a great interest in how the Reds were competing on the field of play.  "Ar dheis De go raibh anam"

Football update
It was a good week for the Senior Reserve Reds as they narrowly defeated Drumalee on Wednesday evening last in the Division 2 Reserve League Semi final on a scoreline of Cornafean 2-15  Drumalee 2-14.  The Reserve Division 2 final v Killinkere has not been fixed yet.  Well done to the U12 girls on their great win over Mullahoran in the Division 1 League final.  They are the first team in the history of the Ladies club to win a Division 1 Football title.  Congratulations to the girls and their management team.  The Senior Reds Intermediate Campaign received a set back on Sunday evening with defeat to Drumlane so this Saturday evening game versus Laragh takes on added significance.  Best of luck to the team and management.

Round 3
Intermediate Championship
Cornafean 0-10  Drumlane 0-13
This was a disappointing defeat for the Reds.  They dominated play for long periods but any little discretions on their behalf were ruthlessly punished by the Ryan Connolly show.  The Reds seemed to have to work a bit harder for their scores and were guilty of missing chances when they got to grips with the Milltown men midway through the first half.  Excellent points from B. Doyle, M. Sheridan 2, C. McSeain and C. Geoghegan left Cornafean on 5 and trailing by 2 pts at half time.
It was more of the same in the second period with Connolly punishing the Reds on every opportunity.  Cornafean came right back into the match with a B. Doyle free and a couple of great strikes from C. Cullen.  The goal the Reds craved never arrived as Drumlane blanketed the defence and Connolly saw them over the line with a couple of trademark scores.
Cornafean Scorers
B. Doyle 0-4, N. Sheridan 0-2, C. Cullen 0-2, C. Geoghegan 0-1, C. McSeain 0-1.

Division 2
Reserve Championship Semi Final
Cornafean 2-15   Drumalee 2-14
Goals from J. McGahern and C. McSeain plus the late introduction of J. Traynor who kicked some crucial scores helped to push the Reds over the line in a very tough and entertaining battle with a strong Drumalee team played in Butlersbridge on Wednesday evening last.  Well done to the panel of players and the management team.  The Reds will now take on Killinkere in the yet to be arranged final.
