Former Armagh star Ronan Clarke will manage Cavan Gaels’ senior footballers in 2019.

The 2002 All-Ireland winner succeeds Jason O’Reilly, who has stepped down after two seasons in charge to join Terry Hyland’s backroom team in Leitrim.

Along with a successful playing career, which includes five Ulster SFC medals, Clarke has coached his native Pearse Og, Monaghan Harps as well as steering Tullysaran to their maiden JFC crown in the Orchard County in 2015.

The two-time All Star winner will look to lead the Gaels to their 15th Oliver Plunkett Cup success next season after the Terry Coyle Park club were dethroned by Gowna at the quarter-final stage this past September.

Meanwhile, county champions Castlerahan are on the look-out for a new manager after Donal Keogan’s decision to step down in the aftermath of their Ulster club SFC quarter-final loss to Eoghan Rua (Derry) at the weekend.

Keogan took over the Ballyjamesduff club in 2017 and steered them to a third consecutive SFC final appearance where they lost out to the Gaels, before bouncing back this season to land their inaugural title with victory over Crosserlough last month.
