Hannan.  Thank you their teacher Ms. McCorry and to all who helped out on the day.

BAFTA Winner

Congratulations to Brian O'Byrne originally from Mullagh on his recent BAFTA award in the Royal Albert Hall London.  The British Academy and Television Arts or BAFTA Film Awards are presented in an Annual Award show hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts to honour the best British and International contributions to film.  Brian was the receipient of the Best Supporting Actor in the ITV series "Little Boy Blue", a drama about the murder of Liverpool schoolboy Rhys Jones.  Brian, who excellently played Rhys's father Steve in the four part drama has been a professional actor for many years now mainly plying his trade in America but more recently on irish TV played Sergeant Mick Moynihan in the smash hit Love/Hate.

Cornafean people will be familiar with Brian as in his younger days he was a very prominent participant in Scor na Nog with his club Cuchullains winning an All Ireland Set Dancing title in Cork in 1984 with the music being provided by members of the Cornafean Ceili Group.  Brian also took part in the the Novelty Act and Ballad Group and even in those early days it was plain to see he was destined for great things.  Earlier in his acting career Brian won a "Tony Award" in New York which is a very prestigeous Theatre acolade.  We wish Brian F. O'Byrne continued success in his future acting career.

Would like to thank everyone who came to their auction at McSeains on Saturday last 13th May.  The sun shone and as usual the crowds came from far and wide.  Thank you to everyone who provided items for the sale and also to those who kept the Auctioneer busy bidding for and buying many of the farming items available on the day.  Also thank you to everyone who helped in preparation for the Auciton and to the stewards and car parking attendants for their assistance on the day.

Football update

Well done to the U15 boys amalgamation of Cornafean/Butlersbridge, Lough Oughter Gaels who are Division 1 Champions after an excellent 9 pt victory over Drumloman Gaels, Mullahoran/Ballymahugh in the final played in Breffni Park last Friday evening.  The ladies made it two wins from two games with a hard fought victory over St. Killians played in Mullagh on Friday night.  Hard luck to the Senior Reds who put up a brave performance against Mullahoran in the Division 2 league on Sunday but lost narrowly by 2 pts.  See Club notes for more details.

CLUB NOTES

Lough Oughter Gaels U15 Division 1 Champions

Lough Oughter Gaels are Division 1 U15 County Champions for 2018.  After a successful league campaign the amalgamation of Cornafean/Butlersbridge arrived in the final where they faced a stiff challenge in the form of Ballymachugh/Mullahoran, Drumloman Gaels.  But the team management and panel of players deserve great credit as they put on an excellent display on final day to claim a coveted Division 1 title on a final scoreline of Lough Oughter 4-13 to Drumlomans 2-10.  Well done to the Cornafean lads on the team and also to their Butlersbridge teammates.  Congratulations to Wayne Sheridan who was vice captain of the team with his bridge colleague Caoilan Smith .  Reds team members were Wayne and Trevor Sheridan, Oisin McPhillips, Emmet Martin, Ronan Trainor, Peter Doyle, Aaron Smith, Pierce Kilkenny and Conor Brady.  Team mentors were Jason Miney, Gerry Shierdan and Sean Kilkenny from Cornafean and Harry Conaty and David McEntee from Butlersbridge.  Well done to all for your time and committment.

Div 2 A C F L...Cornafean 1..05...Mullahoran...0.10...Despite the Reds been somewhat understrength due to current injuries the Team put in a very gutsy and brave performance to  eventually just go down by 2pts to Table Toppers  Mullahoran in a very  entertaining Div 2 clash in Cornafean on Sunday afternoon. The visitors were first on the scoreboard with a point from play but Jason Miney made his way up from the corner back position soon after to equalise with a good point .  The exchanges were tough and uncompromising with the Reds  working  overtime defending against a very mobile Mullahoran forward line. A goal from James Mc Gahern midway through  the half when his rasper of a shot went in via the cross bar was a massive boost for the Reds and a couple of nice points from Barry Doyle  put Cornafean in command.Mullahoran were dangerous on the counter  and Rory Geoghean  pulled off  a couple of vital saves at this  time but the Dreadnoughts tacked over a no of points to stay in touch  but once again Barry Doyle hit over two pts ,one a free to leave the Reds in front at the break on a scorline of Cornafean 1...4 to Mullahorans 0...3. Cornafean had put in a massive effort in the first half but may regret not getting a  few more scores  when they were on top.Into the second half and the game along with the wind turned in the visitors favour and their dominance eventually showed on the scoreboard. Mullahoran reeled off six points without reply, as the Reds fought valiantiy but  Cornafean forwards were starved of possession  as the supply was cut off by the very determined visitors. An Andrew Smith free was the Reds only second half score  on the 23rd minute and shortly after a goal chance went a begging as the Mullahoran goalkeeper saved well. Mullahorans final point of the game arrived from play shortly before the end  leaving the full time score Cornafean 1..5 to Mullahorans  10pts. Well done to both teams on a fine sporting game.
