All Ireland Champions: Pride of place this week goes to Cornafean's Tráth na gCéist team who were crowned Scór na nÓg All Ireland Champions on Saturday last in the Knocknarea Area in Sligo I.T. Huge congratulations to Martin McGibney, William McGibney, Emmet Martin and Peter Doyle who came out the winners of a very exciting close run competition which ended in a tie breaker with the Cornafean boys winning by a single point. Credit must also go to their mentors Paddy McDermott and Tommy McGibney and their parents who helped them with revision and learning.
Cornafean Ballad group: Unfortunately, our good luck wasn't to continue into the Ballad Group competition later in the day. Despite an outstanding performance by the girls it wasn't to be their day. They should be extremely proud of how they performed for their club, county and province. Well done to Anna Tully, Deirbhile McCaffrey, Brianna McCaffrey and Niamh McCaffrey and their mentor Geraldine McCaffrey who has put in sterling work to bring these young ladies to this high level. Indeed, Geraldine has now mentored 11 County Ballad Group winners so thank you Geraldine and well done.
Thank you: On behalf of the Cornafean Club, Quiz Team and Ballad Group to all those who travelled to Sligo to support our two groups, it was much appreciated.
Senior Scór: Reminder of Senior Scór County Final in Killeshandra on Friday 2nd March.
Juvenile Presentation Cornafean GFC...Well done to the Juvenile Committee on their organisation of a very successful medal presentation in the Community Sports Hall on Sunday evening last. Underage girls and boys teams from U11, U13, U14 and U15 were honoured in recognition of their different successes throughout 2017. Juvenile Chairwoman Therese Halton welcomed all the players, parents and supporters and special guest County Captain Dara McVeety. Thanks to Liam Young who introduced the successful U14 and U15 Ladies teams and Dan Wharton who introduced the U11 girls and the victorious U13 and U15 boys squads. Both lads thanked everyone involved with the girls and boys success and hoped it will continue into 2018. Inspirational County Captain Dara McVeety gave a great speech congrulating all teams and their mentors and encouraging more hard work and dedication from all in the future. Thank you to all parents who provided the lovely refreshments for after the presentations.
