Clg Cuchulainn club notes

November 21, 2017

Cuchulainns exited the under 19 at the semi final stage at the hands of Lavey on Saturday at New Inns.

Lavey started strongly with a couple of well worked points followed by a good goal. Cuchulainns had keeper Rose Smith to thank on a couple of occasions as she made some super saves.

Cuchulainns responded well with superbly taken goal from Rachael McKenna after good build up play Amy Magee. This was quickly followed by an excellent Una Carolan point as Cuchulainns roared back into the game. A Lavey goal before half time left the half time score Lavey 2.  8 Cuchulainns 1. 2.

Cuchulainns started the second half brilliantly and with a great goal by Sophie Murray. They upped the intensity and got right back into the game with a few beautiful scores. Superb defending by Meabh Flanagan Clodagh Smyth Shona McKenna Una Carolan and Captain Kate Smyth more than made up for the loss of Alana Daly to a hamstring injury. The tireless running of Aoife O Reilly and Niamh Kinsella put Lavey on the back foot for much of the second half. An elbow injury to Aoife was a huge loss as Cuchulainns surged forward at every opportunity to try and resurrect the game. This left us open at the back and a couple of Lavey scores put and end to any dreams of a final vs Killygary.  It was superb all round team performance against a hugely physical and athletic Lavey side. The effort, determination and skill shown especially in the second half epitomized everything that is good about ladies football. Unfortunately the half time deficit was too big to turn around. Full time Lavey 4. 12 Cuchulainns 2. 8. Best of luck to Lavey in the final.
