The late Mr James Brophy The death took place of James (Jim) Brophy, Toberbeg, Dunlavin at the age of 83. Jim who was ill for the past few months was the last remaining family member of his generation and also the last member of the jubilant Junior Championship team of 1945. He will also be remembered for his part in the championship team of 1945 when Dunlavin had to replay Rathdangan 3 times before there was a winner. Jim was the guest of honour at the official opening of the new GAA grounds in Dunlavin on April 30th 2005, when he was presented with a specially commissioned medal by the then President of the GAA Sean Kelly of which he was very proud. Jim was also a noted handball player and will always be remembered for the sound advice and encouragement that he gave younger players. A guard of honour was provided by the GAA a this removal to St Nicholas of Myra Church and burial took place to the local cemetery following 11am Mass.
