Nolan, Bill

Mr Bill Nolan, Rutland Terrace, Carlow died at Carlow District Hospital on Monday, April 22 aged 89. Bill worked as an agricultural laborer at Springfield Farm Bennekerry for Mr Jack Mahon from 1956 to 1980. He also worked shifts at the sugar factory. His biggest loves were his wife Julia who died in 1995, discussing Irish politics and Gaelic football. He played for Palatine GFC as a full forward and was part of the Carlow Junior Championship winning teams of 1936 and 1948. He was also club president and a referee. A devout Catholic, Bill was a friendly, caring and helpful man who loved to tell stoies about larger than life characters from the old days. He will be sadly missed by many in Carlow and the surrounding areas. Bill was buried at St Mary's Church, Bennekerry on Wednesday, April 24 following Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr Paddy Daly PP Bennekerry.
