Colm Bonnar admits the sending-off of Michael Malone made Carlow’s uphill task against Kilkenny even more difficult.

Wing back Malone was shown a straight red card in the 14th minute of Sunday’s clash at Dr Cullen Park for a high tackle on Cats full back Huw Lawlor and Brian Cody’s charges eased to a 21-point victory:

“The game was over once we went down to 14 men,” the former Tipp ace told The Irish Daily Star. “We have worked very hard over the last number of years and we wanted to take on this kind of challenge.

“It is very hard to take on Kilkenny players with the experience, conditioning and training they have. We have to take out beating – we don’t have time to sit back.”
