The 2019 Leinster MHC tier 2 and tier 3 competitions got underway today...

Kildare enjoyed a winning start to their tier 2 campaign at the expense of Antrim in Abbotstown.

The Lilywhites eased to a 2-19 to 0-7 victory over the Saffrons.

As the end scoreline suggests, the winners were the better team throughout and led by 1-8 to 0-2 at the halfway stage.

Laois also issued a statement of intent with an impressive 2-21 to 0-7 tier 2 victory over Westmeath at O’Moore Park.

Dan Delaney’s first-half goal separated the sides at the half-time whistle (1-5 to 0-5) but there was only one team in it after the break.

Cathal O’Shaughnessy also found the back of the Lake County’s net as the O’Moore County went on to record a 20-point success.

Meanwhile, Carlow cruised to a comprehensive 21-point victory over Meath in round 1 of the tier 3 competition at IT Carlow.

It finished 3-18 to 1-3 in favour of the home side.

Backed by a strong wind in the opening period, the Barrowsiders made full use of the elements to establish a 2-8 to 1-3 interval lead.

Louis Brennan and Scott Treacy found the back of the Royal County’s net in the opening half and Fiach O'Toole added a third shortly after the resumption.

It was all one-way traffic from that point on as the team in green and gold failed to register a score in the second-half.
