Westmeath 1-10

Carlow 2-7

Westmeath and Carlow both remain unbeaten in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League after they fought out a dramatic draw at TEG Cusack Park.

Both teams finished with 14 men after Westmeath captain Kieran Martin and Carlow forward Lee Walker were dismissed in the 42nd and 58th minutes respectively. Carlow were never headed from the ninth minute when Darragh Foley scored the opening goal, but they couldn't shake off the home side who scored the last four points to earn a share of the spoils.

Ger Egan gave Jack Cooney's men an early lead, but when Foley netted, the Barrowsiders were 1-2 to 0-2 ahead. Carlow extended their lead to four points before Joe Halligan's fisted goal in stoppage time left the minimum in it. Foley replied with a free to send the visitors into the break with a 1-6 to 1-4 lead.

Westmeath were dealt a major blow shortly after the restart when Martin was sent off after picking up his second yellow card in the space of four minutes. Carlow looked to be on course for the win when Brendan Murphy raised their second green flag in the 53rd minute to restore their four-point advantage, 2-7 to 1-6, but they wouldn't score again as three points from Egan (one free) and Ronan O'Toole brought the O'Byrne Cup champions level by the 62nd minute.

Westmeath had a number of chances to snatch a winner thereafter, while Carlow had a late appeal for a free-in turned down as a draw proved a fitting result.
