IT Carlow 0-14

DCU got their Sigerson Cup campaign off to a winning start against IT Carlow on home turf tonight.

The Dublin students built their opening victory off the back of a dominant first-half showing which saw them leading by 1-11 to 0-3 at the half.

Brian Reape’s goal just 13 seconds in saw Paddy Christie’s side into a lead that they’d never relinquish as they went about establishing a seven-point lead over the next 10 minutes.

IT Carlow struggled to limit the damage up to the break but, to their credit, turned in a much improved second-half performance that eventually saw them narrowing the margin down to four by the 57th minute.

However, that would be as good as it got for the visitors, with the likes of Cavan’s Dara McVeety, Cian McManus (Fermanagh) and Shehroz Akram (Mayo) helping to see the four-time champions over the line in their opener.
