Being in the championship in June is a novel experience for Carlow forward Paul Broderick.

The sharpshooter who has been in excellent form this year, admitted to the Carlow Nationalist that a few years ago and all the players would be readying themselves for their holidays.

This year has been quite remarkable for the Barrowsiders as they reached the Leinster SFC semi-final for the first time in many years, while this Saturday they take on Tyrone for the first time ever in championship football.

Broderick is delighted to be in the position that he and his team mates are currently in and stressed that they are keen to make the most of this opportunity.

"Four or five years ago you would be booking holidays for this time but now we are playing Tyrone," exclaimed Broderick.

"We are champing at the bit. It is not false champing at the bit. We know this is a mammoth task and a huge, huge challenge.

"It is not a case of us looking forward to Saturday knowing we are going to be beaten. Maybe we will be beaten, but there is a confidence in the camp about taking these lads on. It is brilliant and people are genuinely wishing us luck and believing we have a chance. They mean it."
