The PwC GAA/GPA Player of the Month award winners for the month of May were presented with their trophies at a ceremony at PwC's head offices in Dublin this morning. Carlow's Paul Broderick was announced as the football winner, while Clare's John Conlon picked up the hurling award.

Paul Broderick was sensational in Carlow's surprise victory over Kildare, which set up a Leinster semi-final clash with neighbours Laois this coming Sunday, 10th June. The corner forward finished with a total of 0-11 points, 9 of those coming from placed balls, but he was also immense in open play.

Amazingly, Carlow did not register any wides against the Lilywhites, and will be hoping for a similarly clinical performance against Laois with the prospect of a first Leinster final appearance in 74 years up for grabs.

John Conlon starred in Clare's Munster Championship victory over Waterford. He was a constant threat to the Waterford defence and finished the game with a total of 1-3 scored, as well as winning a vital penalty in the opening half while the game was in the balance.

Conlon will be hoping he can keep up that form against Tipperary on Sunday.

Commenting on the announcement, Feargal O'Rourke, Managing Partner, PwC, said:  "As the sponsor of the PwC All-Stars, we are delighted to support excellence in young Irish talent.  Teamwork and reimagining the possible are core values to our business and are also what makes the difference on the pitch.

"The May 2018 PwC/GAA/GPA Player of the Month winners, announced today, are recognised for their outstanding achievements. Both players have demonstrated great excellence, teamwork and determination and we look forward to many more successes as the 2018 PwC All-Stars Campaign continues.

Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael John Horan said:  "Congratulations to our Player of the Month winners for May and best of luck to both of them in the days and weeks ahead with games that will determine how long their respective summer campaigns unfold.

"John has been a driving force in Clare's bright start to the Munster championship. While they were pipped in their opener against Cork, he was very much to the fore in the win over Waterford that followed and he is an undoubted leader in this Clare team.

"Paul and Carlow have built on last year's exploits with a strong league showing and a great start to the championship that has delivered wins over both Louth and Kildare to date. His scoring prowess has been central to these successes, something that has been acknowledged by his peers through this award.

"A special word of thanks also to our partners PwC whose support of these awards and the All-Stars is highly valued and appreciated."

Speaking on behalf of the GPA, Chairman and acting CEO Seamus Hickey said:  "Congratulations to Paul and John on being honoured with May Player of the Month. Paul's outstanding performance with Carlow recently proves him to be a deserving winner in football, while John's consistent performance with Clare stood out amongst his peers in hurling. Well done to both men and we look forward to seeing more of the same."
