Carlow have won promotion to Division Three after beating Antrim by 1-12 to 0-12 at Corrigan Park.

Darragh Foley's 58th-minute goal proved to be the vital score as Turlough O'Connor's magnificent charges recorded the victory that means they have secured promotion to the third tier for the first time since 1985.

Carlow's sixth straight win of the campaign sends them up and has also secured a Division Four league final appearance with a round of games to spare, while the result has all but ended the Saffrons' own promotion hopes.

The visitors led by six points to four at the break, with Paul Broderick slotting five times and Foley bagging the other. Eoghan Ruth and Foley (free) kept the scoreboard ticking over and the latter pounced for the defining goal after the northerners had been reduced to 14 men. Stephen Beatty was red-carded moments after replacing the black-carded captain Kevin O'Boyle, and the hosts finished with 13 men when Mark Sweeney was also dismissed.
