Ex-Cork star Ciaran Sheehan is poised to make his return to the AFL this Saturday after spending 18 months on the sidelines.

Sheehan, who won an All-Ireland with the Rebels in 2010, last played for his club side Carlton in August of 2014, when he made his breakthrough for the Melbourne outfit, before being hampered by a hip injury which required surgery.

As a result, the 25-year-old missed the entire 2015 season after having been hit with a series of set-backs to his recovery, but is now in line to play for Northern Blues, Carlton's affiliate club, on Saturday against Williamstown.

Northern Blues squad will be finalised when Carlton's first-team squad for Sunday's game against Port Adelaide is named tomorrow.

"Ciaran Sheehan's been out for quite some time with a hip irritation and a little bit of a sore foot as well," Carlton's Head of Football Andrew McKay stated earlier this week.

"He's back into full training, has been for a couple of weeks.

"He's going to be available for Northern Blues, which is fantastic for him, because he's had limited football over the last year or so."
