GAA Season Kicks Off in Queensland - On The Beach !!!

Gaelic Games are getting back into full swing down under with a 10-A-Side beach competition to get the season underway.
GAA clubs from Brisbane and The Gold Coast descended upon Surfers Paradise for a mixed team competition. The ex-pats and locals alike faced a tough challenge with temperatures peaking at 31 degrees !!! Throw-in was at 11am with 10 teams playing intermittently throughout the afternoon. Regular dips in the Pacific were a common sight after every half as players battled the heat.
Referees Declan Durcan ( Sligo ) and David Deady (Bruree,Limerick) alternated the duties over the course of the afternoon whilst competition co-ordinators, Peadar Scanlon (Macroom, Cork) and Thomas Sheridan kept things running smoothly in this friendly season opener.
Ten teams fought it out in sizling conditions but only one team could be crowned Beach 7s Champions. That accolade went to Team "New Bliss" of Brisbane.
Trophies and medals were presented to the teams back at Fiddlers Green Irish Pub, the apres-match analysis continued well into the wee hours!!
