Deise come out of Tipp clash unscathed

August 19, 2008
Waterford will return to training tonight (Tuesday) with every player fit that was involved in Sunday's dramatic win over Tipperary. Team selector Peter Queally confirmed on Monday that every Deise player had came through the weekend's All-Ireland semi-final, which is good news for Davy Fitzgerald as he prepares his side for the biggest test of all when they come up against Kilkenny in next month's decider. The Clare native believes that serious work will need to be done two-and-a-half weeks if they are to seriously challenge the Black Cats who overcame an experienced Cork outfit in their respective semi-final. "We can go up and enjoy the day, and give ourselves no chance, or we can get down to work again, go up and tear into it and see what happens," said Fitzgerald. "I suppose that is going to be some of my job. Let's be honest about this, and this is straight-up stuff, anyone that watched the Cork-Kilkenny game last week would give no one in the country a chance. And that's fact. "The way they played last week, they just brushed Cork aside - and Cork were an experienced outfit." Fitzgerald has as much respect for Kilkenny for what they have achieved, particularly in recent years, but the Deise boss believes that anything can happen in any given game of hurling. "I would have tremendous respect for Kilkenny. I know the team they are, I know the manager they have, and they're awesome. But, on any given day for 70 minutes, you don't know what will happen.
