Joe Brolly has branded 2014 'Footballer of the Year' James O'Donoghue "over-rated" while tipping Mayo to defeat Kerry in this Sunday's All-Ireland SFC semi-final.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Independent.ie's 'Throw-In' podcast, the controversial RTE pundit gave his thoughts as to why he feels Stephen Rochford's side can upset the Kingdom this weekend, while also playing down the impact of the Munster champions' top scorer so far this summer.

"James O'Donoghue is over-rated. He made his reputation in two semis when he wasn't marked. If O'Donoghue is tightly marked he's not going to be that big of a factor," Brolly stated.

"Kerry's half forward line is also at a disadvantage. They're good footballers but uninspiring and Mayo's half back line are so dynamic. Can Kerry hold Lee Keegan? Can Mayo contain the Donaghy threat? That's where its going to be won or lost."

On his prediction for the victors of Sunday's clash at Croker, the Derry All-Ireland winner added: "Kerry are the safe bet because of their efficiency and ruthlessness. But you know, there's something about Mayo, something buoyant about them now that they are back on track after Roscommon. I'm going to go for Mayo."
