They may not have won the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 58 years, but Waterford have history on their side when it comes to facing Galway in championship hurling.

As alluded to by Martin Breheny in his match report of yesterday's All-Ireland SHC semi-final between Waterford and Cork in the Irish Independent, the Deise have won all 10 of their previous championship clashes with the Tribesmen.

Waterford have won every encounter between the counties since they first met in the 1938 All-Ireland SHC semi-final, but will start next month's novel decider as underdogs.
