Champion jockey Davy Russell is appealing to the public to support the sixth annual Hurling for Cancer Research match in Newbridge next Tuesday evening.

The game, which throws in at 6.30pm in St. Conleth's Park, is jointly organised by Russell and top trainer Jim Bolger. It will see a host of Irish hurling and horse racing stars come together for what promises to be a great evening's entertainment, and all for a good cause.

Russell told the Racing Post: "The Hurling for Cancer event is always great fun and I would urge anyone to come down and give their support on Tuesday. It's great craic and it's all in aid of a brilliant cause."

The Youghal man is hoping to repeat last year's victory over Bolger's team.

"We have many of the familiar faces back again and hopefully we have a couple of aces up our sleeve as well. The game always starts off as a bit of fun but it doesn't be long about heating up and we want to win it, for sure.

"It's amazing really what a game of hurling can do and hopefully we will enjoy more of the same come Tuesday," he added.
