Kildare clubs have given the county board the go-ahead to proceed with revised plans for the redevelopment of St. Conleth's Park.
It's proposed that the €6 million project will now be completed in one phase rather than three as originally envisaged. Former ESB chief and Sligo footballer Padraig McManus, who was appointed to a committee some time ago to spearhead the project, told Monday night's county board meeting in Hawkfield that it would not be encomonically or commercially viable to complete the project over three phases, with building costs rising steadily and selling the project commercially (in three phases) near impossible.
Kildare chairman Ger Donnelly assured club delegates that they would not be burdened with financing the project.
"Clubs just can't afford any more levies as they are currently financing the loan on the Hawkfield project," he is quoted as saying on the Leinster Leader website.
