Croker is for Gaelic games 'first and foremost', says Gavin

Jim Gavin has once again called on the GAA to review their use of Croke Park for concerts at the height of the GAA season.

The Dublin manager criticised the condition of the pitch at the Hill 16 end of the ground after last month's Leinster SFC final, which took place just eight days after the Jones' Road venue had staged a Coldplay concert. His sentiments were echoed by Roscommon boss Kevin McStay who also took aim at the state of the pitch last Sunday after a section of it had been dug up for a U2 concert the previous weekend.

"I just think they have to have a look at the schedule. It's a stadium built for Gaelic games first and foremost. That has to be the priority," Gavin said yesterday.

"With a couple of days to go to the (Monaghan) game, it is what it is and the eight teams that will be involved in the hurling and football there over the weekend will just have to deal with it. It is what it is - you'd hope that Croke Park will reflect on it."
