Ryan pleased to come through 'absolute cracker'

Tipperary manager Michael Ryan during his side's All-Ireland SHC quarter-final against Clare

Tipperary boss Michael Ryan says his side earned a "massive" prize yesterday in defeating Clare to return to the All-Ireland SHC semi-finals.

The Premier men faced the prospect of letting their Liam McCarthy Cup crown slip from their grasp against the Banner County after shipping two quick first-half goals, but they put forth a more assured second-half display at Pairc Ui Chaoimh to finish with a 0-28 total and move into the last four.

"We're delighted. I thought it was a real game - an absolute cracker of a game," Ryan told Newstalk afterwards.

"It ebbed and flowed and we might have looked in reasonably good shape there and Clare came roaring back into the game there with six unanswered points to take that (lead) down to one.

"We had it all to do. If anything, the momentum had actually shifted away from us so we had to wrestle it back or wrestle back some form of equilibrium where we were breaking as much ball or getting on as much ball as we possibly could.

"But, they had dominated for a period, no mistake about it and it really was in the fire so we're just delighted, to be honest with you.
