Many GAA players and supporters have reacted with disappointment to the news that Newstalk Radio has lost its rights to broadcast inter-county games.
Newstalk has built up a loyal following through its excellent GAA coverage in recent years, but has not been awarded rights to any live games in the latest TV and radio rights deal.
Instead, RTÉ Radio 1 has regained full and exclusive live radio rights for all GAA games including inter-county league and championship action, while RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will again broadcast as Gaeilge.
Live #GAA on @NewstalkFM RIP. Very disappointing for the lads and the listeners.

What's the story with Newstalk losing match coverage? In fairness they gave great coverage of the "weaker counties" games? Surely money??

Disappointed that @NewstalkFM loses out in GAA media rights package. Their championship coverage was excellent. Will be missed next summer

Big loser in GAA media rights package is @NewstalkFM, which gets zero. Given station's sporting bone fides, that's a major talking point.

Question why are Newstalk losing #GAA commentary rights?

TweetNewstalk did fine job on GAA Championship and provided strong alternative to RTE approach. Would love to know GAA logic to rights' decision.
