Mayo defender Keith Higgins is already focusing on the 2017 campaign.

Higgins could be forgiven for switching off from football altogether for the next couple of months, but that is not in the make up of the man.

Having just completed the club season with Ballyhaunis hurlers last Sunday when they were defeated in the Connacht club IHC final, Higgins has straight away begun thinking of next year with Mayo.

Speaking to the Mayo News, he said: "When you think ahead to the training sessions in January and February, you're probably kinda wondering, 'Will I have another go at this?'

"But at the end of the day, the opportunity to play for Mayo and the prize at the end of it is too big to walk away from.

"There's always going to be thoughts and doubts in your head at this time of year, and the beginning of next season, but it's the thoughts of the summer days in MacHale Park and Croke Park that keep you going."
