Westmeath's John Keane and Fergal Wilson.

John Keane and Fergal Wilson will take charge of the Westmeath U21 footballers next year.

The duo, who were part of the Lake County's 2004 Leinster SFC winning team, were appointed at a county board meeting on Wednesday night, with Keane taking on the role of manager and Wilson acting as coach / selector. Two-time All Star defender Keane managed Kieran Martin's Maryland last year, while Wilson guided Marist College, Athlone to a surprise Leinster Colleges SFC final appearance earlier this year.

There is speculation that Wilson's Tubberclair club-mate and former All Star goalkeeper Gary Connaughton could also be part of the management for what will the U21 grade's final year.

Keane replaces Emmett McDonnell, who is concentrating on his role as senior selector.
