Dublin defender James McCarthy will be fit for Sunday week's All-Ireland SFC final with Mayo, according to manager Jim Gavin.

Speaking at yesterday's pre All-Ireland final press conference, Gavin said he had "no concerns" over McCarthy despite the Ballymun Kickhams clubman having been seen wearing a sling after last Sunday week's semi-final victory over Kerry.

"James is as tough as teak," the Dublin boss stated. "He had been training well coming into the quarter-final. We could have played him if we had to, but thankfully we didn't to give him another week. You saw his mobility on the pitch (against Kerry), that's what he was demonstrating in the weeks leading up to that game."

On the non-appearance of Denis Bastick against the Kingdom, Gavin added: "He's in the shape of his life. It's a team game like we've always said and whatever players we ask to take the field to do the job but behind that there's a squad of 30 pushing each other on along the way and he's a big part of that."
