Mattie Donnelly expects the veteran Tyrone trio of Sean Cavanagh and brothers Joe and Justin McMahon to return in 2017.

There has been speculation surrounding the futures of all three since the Red Hands' All-Ireland SFC quarter-final loss to Mayo. Team captain Cavanagh recently revealed that he's rethinking his plans after deciding at the start of the year it would be his last.

"They said they are going to take their time over it," Donnelly told the Belfast Telegraph ahead of his club Trillick's opening Tyrone SFC defence against Eglish on Sunday.

"But I would say they will be present too when the 2017 squad is meeting. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be.

"A lot is made of age and miles on the clock. But boys like Sean and Joe and Justin don't really operate in terms of years, they just think of winning. That's what will make their decision; if they think there is something there to be done, those boys can contribute. I would say they are going to stay on and they are well fit for it."
