A GAA club in Galway has been left reeling after one of its pitches was damaged by vandals.

Kinvara club members were shocked to discover last Sunday morning tyre track marks on the training pitch, which had only recently being reseeded. The vandals had tried to enter the club's new pitch, but were unsuccessful.

"What happened was at some stage on Saturday night, or the early hours of Sunday morning, a car came in onto it and drove on it and did a few doughnuts and skids on it," Kinvara GAA chairman Garret Byrne explained to the Clare Champion.

"It is on the middle training pitch, which would double up as a juvenile training / playing area, which we had just re-sown in July. It was coming on nicely and obviously this has happened now. We are going to go fix the damage this week. We have to roll it and rake it and re-sow it."

Gort Gardai are investigating the matter.
