Club that nearly folded wins again!

Loughnavalley's John O'Brien has to get past Delvin's Patrick Poynton

A club that came within a whisker of disbanding a few months ago celebrated its second win in the Westmeath JFC yesterday.

A crisis meeting was called as recently as May 13 last to save Loughnavalley GAA which has no underage structure and has seen its playing numbers dwindle in recent years. It appears that meeting was a turning point for the 'Valley who, aided by the additions of 1995 All-Ireland minor winners Kenny McKinley and Tommy Cleary to their playing ranks, recorded their first JFC win at Ballycomoyle's expense in four years last month before accounting for St. Joseph's by 1-10 to 1-7 in Killucan yesterday.

While the two victories weren't enough to get them through to the knockout stages, Loughnavalley's determination to keep going in the face of adversity is a credit to everyone in the small, rural club which also caters for ladies football.
