Garth Brooks returns to Croke Park

Country & Western star Gareth Brooks has snubbed his second concert at a GAA grounds in two years.

Rumours were rife that Brooks and his entourage were coming to Cork next year to play in the revamped Pairc Ui Chaoimh where redevelopment work is expected to be completed by next January.

The Lord Mayor of Cork Des Cahill had stated that he was 'very confident' that Brooks would play the Leeside venue in 2017.

Brooks was famously due to play five gigs at Croke Park in July 2014, but following objections from the residents' association in the area, the American pulled the plug on all concerts, leaving fans disconsolate.

However, RTE Entertainment revealed that a spokesperson for Brooks stated: "We know of no such plans on his schedule."

Pairc Ui Chaoimh was knocked to the ground last year and is undergoing a €70 million refurbishment, which will see the famed GAA grounds re-open next January with an expanded capacity of 33,000.
