Tipperary's run to the All-Ireland SFC quarterfinal has come as no surprise to Galway manager Kevin Walsh.

The counties will do battle for a place in the All-Ireland SFC semi-final on Sunday afternoon.

Tipp's run to the last eight has come as a huge surprise to many as there are now three Munster teams in the quarterfinals (Clare and Kerry) being the other two, while Cork have the chance of reaching that stage when they take on Donegal tomorrow.

However, Walsh points to the recent success that the Premier County has had at underage level and he told the Connacht Tribune that they were there on merit.

"When you get to the quarterfinal stage every team is there on merit and this Tipperary team just hasn't come out of nowhere," said Walsh.

"They won an All-Ireland minor a few years back and probably should have won the under-21 last year - a lot of those lads are used to winning and they'll really look forward to the Croke Park challenge.

"We won't look for one second past Sunday but there is a huge prize out there for us. This match is the gateway to an All-Ireland semi-final but all our games have been big ones this year."
