Wexford defender James Breen is almost certain to miss Sunday's All-Ireland SHC qualifier against Waterford.

The talented corner back was admitted to Waterford University Hospital over the weekend and was diagnosed with viral meningitis.

However, he is expected to be released this week, but any chance of lining out on Sunday seem to have gone.

Breen joins the likes of Andrew Shore, Shane Tomkins, David Redmond and Shaun Murphy on the absent list, while Podge Doran is set to be out for four to six weeks also with knee ligament damage.

Liam Ryan has returned to training after he had the plaster and pin removed from his broken thumb, but the Waterford game is set to come too soon for him.

Aidan Nolan has returned to action, but he is only fit enough for ten to 15 minutes like he played against Cork.
