Sean Cavanagh is hoping yesterday's Ulster SFC triumph will herald a new and exciting era for Tyrone.

The Red Hands ended a six-year wait for Anglo-Celt Cup honours after edging out Donegal, prompting their experienced captain to say: "We became men today. We have been knocking at the door in Ulster for the past few years, but got no breaks. We came up a bit short when our backs were to the wall. But today we dug in.

"It has been tough watching Donegal and Monaghan win the titles for a good few years now. There's a new team coming in Tyrone and it culminated here to a degree today.

"The lads who came off the bench made a huge impact in the second half. We kept at it and got our rewards."

Cavanagh, who kicked three second half points, admitted it was one of the most satisfying successes he's being involved in.

"I'm playing football an awful long time but that was as good a win as I've been involved in. When a game is in the melting pot, some players may hide, but in the last 10 minutes there we had an awful lot of characters who wanted the ball and wanted to do damage. It amde me immensely proud to be part of a side like that," he added.

"I'm not bluffing whenever I say that this is one of the strongest squads that I have ever been involved in. There are guys who didn't even take the field there today who would get thier place on most county teams."
