Cork defender Damien Cahalane believes that a win over Wexford and reaching the All-Ireland SHC quarterfinals will help prove their critics wrong.

Following their dismal display against Tipperary in the Munster SHC, the Rebels have bounced back and defeated Dublin in the qualifiers and now they are only one game away from a place in the quarterfinals.

They have been heavily criticised for their early season form, but a run in the championship could go a long way to reclaiming some pride.

Kieran Kingston's charges are favourites to see off the challenge of the Model County when the sides meet in Semple Stadium on Saturday evening and Cahalane told the Southern Star that a win tomorrow would shut-up their critics for a while at least.

"Our character had been questioned after we were well beaten by Tipperary in Munster, but in pulling through such a tight game, I think we showed we can produce the level of intensity needed to compete in championship hurling," said Cahalane.

"It was definitely a big improvement on the Tipp game, and the bottom line is that it gets us through to the next round of the qualifiers and gives us another chance to prove our critics wrong."
