McGee taking appeal to CAC

Referee Maurice Deegan sends off Donegal's Neil McGee during the Ulster SFC clash with Fermanagh.

Donegal full back Neil McGee is appealing his suspension to the Central Appeals Committee (CAC) in a bid to be available for Saturday's Ulster SFC semi-final replay against Monaghan.

The Ghaoth Dobhair clubman served the first part of a two-match ban, which he received in the wake of his straight red card against Fermanagh, in last Saturday night's drawn encounter. Having failed to have the suspension lifted when appeared before the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) last Tuesday night in Croke Park, McGee has now lodged a fresh appeal with the CAC.

"We're taking it further," Donegal manager Rory Gallagher confirmed to the Irish News.

"There just hasn't been a hearing yet. When you have a man sent off, you just have to plan without him but the plus point in the overall scheme of the championship is he's one game down and we're no worse off."

McGee's suspension was doubled as it was his second ban of the season.
