Cian Mackey says Seanie Johnston's ill-fated intercounty transfer to Kildare was a mistake.

The Cavan scoring machine switched allegiances to the Lilywhites in 2012 but made a triumphant championship return for the Breffni County on Sunday, pegging seven points during the comfortable victory over Armagh.

Delighted to have the 31-year-old Cavan Gaels clubman back on board, Mackey told The Irish Daily Star: "Seanie is a scorer. He is a great man to be in the right position at the right time.

"It was a bad call he made a couple of years ago but everyone makes bad decisions in life. He has come back, got his head down, come back into the team. It is great for us.

"There is no ill feeling with any member of the panel and he is winning over the crowd."
