"Isn't it great to see a fella doing his own thing"

It won't come as a surprise to hear that Armagh goalkeeper Paul Courtney is actually an outfield player.

Courtney marked his Ulster SFC debut against Cavan this afternoon with a number of sallies out the field, including one which took him well into enemy territory. The Ballyhegan man, who was centre forward on the Armagh U21 team that won out Ulster in 2007, also bucked the trend by deciding against wearing gloves.

On the Sunday Game tonight, Ciaran Whelan said Courtney's antics were "fraught with danger", while Pat Spillane praised his maverick spirit, declaring: "Isn't it great to see a fella off script and doing his own thing. Let's bring a bit of enjoyment into the game."
