Former Mayo footballer Cathal Freeman is looking forward to returning to Croke Park with the county's hurlers.

The Tooreen clubman, who was part of the Mayo football panel when they lost the 2012 All-Ireland final to Donegal, lined out at wing back for the hurlers in their victory over Donegal on Saturday, which set up a Nicky Rackard Cup final showdown with Armagh on Saturday week.

"Any day you get to Croke Park is a great day," he told the Western People.

"I thought for a while that I'd never see Croke Park again, but thankfully we've got back there. It's just rewards for the work the lads have put in.

"There was massive effort put in last year with this management team and this group of players, and they didn't have the success that they thought they might. It's a great reward for them."

Also bound for Croker on June 4 is dual star Keith Higgins, who will line out for the footballers in their Connacht championship quarter-final against London in Ruislip before then.
