Kieran Kingston says his side will need to be at the top of their game if they are to topple Tipperary in Sunday's Munster senior hurling championship opener.

The Rebels lost five of their league outings in Division One this season before condemning Galway to relegation in a play-off and are ranked as 11/4 outsiders against the hosts at Thurles this weekend.

"It's a huge ask for us against one of the top teams in the country," Kingston told RTE Sport.

"We'll have to put in a very good performance to compete with Tipp. We know that. At the same time, we're not going to make up the numbers.

"We like going to Thurles. It's kind of a home from home, so I don't think that's going to be any disadvantage to us."

Throw-in at Semple Stadium on Sunday is at 4pm.
