Laois captain Donie Kingston has revealed that he is enjoying the responsibility of leading the side this year.

Kingston will lead Laois out for the first time in a championship match this Saturday evening when they take on Wicklow in the Leinster SFC at O'Moore Park.

And he admitted to the Leinster Express that captaining his county is a dream he has had since he was a young lad.

"I've enjoyed it so far, it's always something you think of as a young lad, you want to be captain of Laois, and I've enjoyed it," said Kingston. "It's great to play with the group of lads we have here as well."

Kingston believes that the quick turnaround from league to championship has kept their minds focused.

"I think the fact that the championship has come around so quick, we were straight into preparations for the championship, so I suppose that did help us get over relegation."
