Ruairi Deane has emerged as a doubt for Cork's Munster SFC opener against either Tipperary or Waterford in a month's time after he suffered a knee injury while playing for his club Bantry Blues last night.

There are fears that the midfielder may have suffered a recurrence of the cruciate knee injury he sustained during the 2014 Munster final against Kerry. Deane was carried off midway through the second half of Bantry's 0-10 to 1-13 loss to Mallow in the first round of the Cork 'Premier' IFC at Newcestown.

"It was Ruairi's injury that finished us. He was phenomenal for us tonight and they found it very hard to cope with his surging runs. It really hurt us when he went off and now we'll have to see how bad his knee injury is. It's very worrying,' Banty manager Arthur Coakley told the Southern Star.
