Joe Kernan is disappointed that there will be no International Rules series this year.

The GAA announced yesterday that the series has been put on hold until 2017 when Ireland will travel to Australia for a two-game series, breaking from the single-game arrangement of recent years. The hybrid game is also set to make its debut on US soil, with details of an exhibition series to be announced later this year.

Kernan, who managed Ireland to a 56-52 victory over the Aussies at Croke Park last November, told the Belfast Telegraph: "I am disappointed that the Rules series will not go ahead this year as Australia are unable to commit to it.

"Had it been taking place, this might have allowed us to build on our success of last year, but hopefully we will regain our momentum next year and win on Australian soil."
