Armagh got their bid to go one step further than last year off to a winning start but they will look to improve on their showing against Donegal.

It finished Armagh 2-19, Donegal 3-13 in the Athletic Grounds after Cathal Carvill and Conor Corvan netted goal in either half for the hosts.

The Orchard County, who lost last year's decider to Roscommon, led by 1-14 to 2-6 at half-time.

Meanwhile, Monaghan sauntered to a 5-12 to 1-12 victory over hosts Fermanagh who were competing in the competition for the first time since 2007 having won the Lory Meagher title last year.

A Brian McGuigan hat-trick was a key ingredient in the Farney County's winning formula.

Mark Treanor and Stephen Lambe also raised green flags while Conor McShea netted a late consolation for the Ernesiders who had Danny Teague red carded early on.

In Carrickmore, Mayo overturned a 0-9 to 0-10 half-time deficit to get the better of hosts Tyrone by 4-19 to 0-17.

Kenny Feeney helped himself to a brace of goals for JP Coen's men.

Elsewhere, Longford slipped to a 3-15 to 3-21 defeat to Fingal at Naomh Barrog's grounds.
