Injury-plagued Tyrone footballer PJ Quinn has been forced to retire from intercounty football.

The Moortown clubman won an All-Ireland medal with the Red Hands in his debut season, 2008, and added Ulster SFC medals in 2009 and 2010.

He represented his county at senior level 46 times, including eleven championship outings.

His last appearance was against Armagh in the 2014 SF Qualifiers. A hip injury ruled him out of the 2015 season and he has never been able to recover full fitness.

The defender told manager Mickey Harte of his decision to retire due to persistent injury problems and the three-times All-Ireland winning manager accepted his decision "with great regret".
